FSI attends first FM Leaders Forum from the BIFM, discussing Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Facilities Management professionals must adopt Building Information Modelling (BIM), reports the first FM Leaders Forum from the BIFM, attended by FSI (FM Solutions) Limited, global developers of the Concept Evolution™ completely web-based CAFM solution.

Notable industry leaders recently met for the first FM Leaders Forum from the BIFM to discuss trends in the industry.  With Jacqueline Walpole, FSI's Business Analyst, in attendance, the forum, entitled "BIM and FM: Bridging the gap for success", concluded that the FM industry must engage with the developing BIM agenda in order to realise the full potential BIM holds for delivering value and cost savings over a building's lifetime.

Whilst BIM can increase efficiency and reduce costs for the maintenance of facilities, delivery teams and Facilities Management (FM) professionals must be involved in a collaborative approach.  The knowledge and experience of FM is crucial for the development of BIM technology.

Gareth Tancred, BIFM CEO, stated "The expertise that the facilities management profession offers is key; both in individual projects and in the development of BIM technology for the industry. They bring the insight and understanding of the end user of the buildings; and are currently under-represented in many cases. The FM Leaders Forum discussion highlighted that facilities management is still not wholly understood by the wider built environment professions and that BIM could prove to be a catalyst for building valuable strategic bridges between facilities management and the wider built environment."
