Facilities highlights

Developments in FM software will be demonstrated by a number of exhibitors.  Among these, FSI (FM Solutions) Limited (stand E20) will showcase its Workflow solutions for business process automation, the Digital Dashboard solution, and its Concept™ Regional Training Programme.

FSI’s Workflow Lite module offers the user control over the business rules which trigger system communications and content.  Workflow Lite enables the automation of email, efax and SMS text messaging, using a graphical flow charting design interface, to map the business rules which trigger messages.  Additionally, FSI’s Workflow Pro schedule delivers a standard set of reusable software components to build upon Workflow Lite’s automated messaging functionality to automate and integrate the Concept™ system.   Its Digital Dashboard is a real-time, easy to understand graphical representation of KPI’s defined and tailored according to your requirements.  In a new development FSI is offering training in Concept™ closer to home via its Regional Training Programme at dedicated training centres in Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Manchester.

Security has never been higher on the public sector agenda in airport or railway stations, shopping centres or Government establishments, securing people, places and private information.  OCS Security (stand H10) provides integrated solutions for manned guarding and electronic security systems and has the ability to install, mobilise and manage the most appropriate solutions throughout the UK.  It will be using the show to highlight the consultative approach it uses to provide innovative solutions to security problems.

Commercial laundry and thermal-disinfector equipment manufacturer, Miele Professional (stand H2) will be exhibiting its washer-extractors, dryers and commercial dishwashers from its extensive range at The Facilities Show.  Included will be samples from Miele’s popular Little Giants range, including a brand new addition to the range, the PW 5064 developed specifically with contract cleaning and FM companies in mind.  All washing machines from 6.5kg upwards feature a specific mophead and thermal disinfection programmes, and where temperature sensitive textiles require processing, they can be fitted with liquid feed pumps for controlled dosing of System Sanitise chemicals for low temperature treatment.

Walter Meier (formerly Axir Climate) (stand F3) will be exhibiting a wide selection of air conditioning and humidification products alongside details of the company’s extensive after care and support services.

Security concerns

Could a hacker take control of a company’s security cameras?  This is just one of the issues addressed at IFSEC, the security event running alongside The Facilities Show.

The UK has approximately 4.2m CCTV systems, and the growth in video surveillance has boosted the advantages of attaching them to Internet Protocol (IP) networks allowing live or recorded video to be accessed at any time by authorised users, whether they are local or remote.  Are you sure an unauthorised user could not get into your system?

The IP & Networks product area at IFSEC 2008 will display the latest in command and control software, visualisation systems, data storage, IP cameras, network-based access control and intelligent video processing.

BPT Security Systems (UK) Ltd (IFSEC stand 11042) specialists in door entry, access control and gate automation, will be launching its new Mitho colour touch screen monitor.  Mitho brings together video door entry and true home automation in one highly compact, minimalist unit.  It comprises an integrated handset, that can also be used hand free, with a sleek tough screen measuring 4.3in.

G4S (stand 570) will be demonstrating its range of integrated security solutions in IFSEC’s guarding and support services hall including its suite of technology innovations and how it delivers real time information to its customers, increasing the efficiency, responsiveness and accountability of security provision.  Technologies showcased will include G4S’ RFID proof of presence system, its mobile data capture solution and its online web portal for delivery of management data.  Security officers from G4S’ Gurkha Services unit (pictured above) will be attending IFSEC to demonstrate G4S’ new specialist security service designed for customers with responsibility for the protection of high value, high risk and sensitive sites.

Safety highlights

Also running alongside The Facilities Show, Safety & Health Expo offers more to interest FMs.

Ascom (S&H Expo stand C71) provides wireless based communication and alarm solutions for loneworkers of staff operating in threatening or hazardous environments.  These can be integrated with legacy communications systems allowing, for example, direct dialling to handsets from hard wired PBX, messaging from existing alarm of building controls, and transfer of production data direct into the hands of relevant staff.

Empteezy Ltd (S&H Expo stand C75) will be demonstrating the Spill Doctor spill kit.  It complies with the Pollution Prevention Guidelines (PPG26) and comes in three versions.  Its features include a lid that can either be hinged open or completely removed at the flick of a catch, and security tag/padlock holes that help ensure the contents are always secure and available.  A collapsible handle and built-in wheels make it easy to use and mobil
